We went hiking to celebrate (a bit early). We started at the Haleiwa side of Kaena Point and made it all the way to the Waianae side. We walked through a wildlife preserve that the State DNLR has fenced off to prevent dogs, pigs and cats from preying on the shearwaters and albatrosses. We saw some of those birds and both agreed that we appreciate our taxes going to such preservation. The plants were all pre-human contact also - just fascinating: silvery leaves, low to the ground and hardy.
The photos show how hot, dry and untouched the northwest coast of Oahu is. The hike was a total of 8 miles. It was not difficult but long and dry.
With this last little bit, we both have successfully circled the entire island.
