Before & After

Historians study continuity and change, asking what is different? what stayed the same? Why? In the spirit of Christmas we offer two mundane examples of such "before and after."
Mont wanted a haircut. His father had just shorn his unruly locks and so "like father, like son" . . . He was pleased with the 7/8 inch top and blended sides.
Oli really wanted to get our Christmas tree yesterday. We had errands and shopping to do in town, so off we went to the Ala Moana shopping center, where an entire corner of the parking lot at Piikoi St. and Ala Moana Blvd. is full of Matson cargo containers from the mainland. We bought the table top Christmas tree. Immediately upon returning home, she and her sisters decorated the tree. Usually, the parking lot at Ala Moana smells of Zippy's chili and exhaust. Yesterday, Olivia got out of the van and said "Oh, Daddy, it smells like Christmas."
So, "Before and After" - the Lord taketh away (hair in this case) and he addeth (Christmas cheer and decorations).

  1. Oh, I love the shorn boy. He looks so grown up and serious without his hair. And love the beautified tree and the beautifiers.
